POSITION/RANK: Asst. Prof., Music Theory
QUALIFICATIONS:
  Ph.D., demonstrated effectiveness as a teacher,
  record of publication in music theory or evidence
  of strong potential to publish.
JOB DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  All research specialties in music theory will be considered;
  however, we seek to expand the Department's range by
  attracting someone with a research interest that complements
  those of present faculty. Possibilities include
  interdisciplinary areas such as feminist studies,
  hermeneutics, narratology, perception and cognition,
  philosophy, post-modern literary-critical theory,
  semiotics, or a non-canonic repertoire.

  The successful candidate must be able to contribute to the
  Department's diverse instructional and advising needs at
  the undergraduate and graduate levels, which include
  musicianship skills, theory and analysis, graduate courses,
  and thesis advising, and to ongoing curriculum development.
  Depending on the abilities and interests of the successful
  candidate, duties might include supervision and development
  of the undergraduate musicianship skills program (possibly
  including instituting the use of CAI as an adjunct to
  classroom instruction), or forging ties with an
  interdisciplinary unit outside the Faculty of Music
  (such as Western's Centres for Theory and Criticism, Women's
  Studies and Feminist Research, or Western Literatures and
  Civilization).

SALARY RANGE: the current floor is $45,000

JOB DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  The successful candidate will demonstrate a continuing
  commitment to excellence in musicological research in any
  area of specialization. This candidate will also possess a
  dynamic and engaging teaching style, particularly required
  for teaching classes with large enrolments, and will
  contribute to the design of courses at both undergraduate
  and graduate levels that will provide academic challenge for
  students within and beyond the Faculty of Music. The
  position will involve an active role in the graduate work
  of the department, including the supervision of PhD
  students.

MUSICOLOGY, MUSIC THEORY, ETHNOMUSICOLOGY

BATES COLLEGE, Lewiston, Maine, MUSIC DEPARTMENT seeks a Visiting
Assistant Professor for a two year appointment beginning September, 1997.
Teach classes in music theory, feminist musicology, and topics in the

Vienna will as from summer 1997 engage the full-time position of an
archivist. 

The following qualifications will be desired:

--Completed studies of musicology or similar graduate background
--Several years of professional experience in archives and with publishers
--Scientific knowledge of the Zweite Wiener Schule and the music of the 19th
and 20th centuries
--Good command of German and English, EDP-experience
--Place of employment is Vienna
