QUALIFICATIONS:
The person recruited will probably have a Master's 
degree in Computing Science and a certain degree 
of expertise in all or some of the following areas: 

COMPUTER SCIENCE
Excellent Object-oriented analysis and programming 
skills, preferably C++ 
Good knowledge of JAVA, WWW design (HTML, VRML, 
and Web design packages) 
Networked multimedia and database application 
design 
Familiar with multimedia packages (Toolbook/Director) and CAL software development 
CD-ROM storage 

COMPUTER MUSIC
MIDI technology/programming
Development of basic sequencing software 
Development of simple score editing 

MUSIC:
Notation skills
Theory concepts
Keyboard skills


GRAPHICS AND ANIMATION Design:
Creation of cartoon-like characters, 
animated stories and game-like environments 

PERSONAL QUALITIES
- an interest in music education
- a compentence in communicating with young 
  children and in interpreting their ideas
- imagination, creativity
- a desire to work in a team with music teachers, 
  composers and students 
- a great deal of flexibility and patience 
- Spanish is an advantage but not essential

COMPANY PROFILE
Pro-Art is a private music school with its headquaters in 
Palma  de Mallorca and two other branches located in the 
other two biggest towns of Majorca. Established in 1990 for 
the purpose of teaching and researching in the area of 
music education (emphasis in piano), it currently has some 
500 students (ages between 3 and 99) and a full-time staff 
of 9. It is the school�s mission to make music not only 
possible but stimulating for everyone. Technology plays 
a strong role in our continuous commitment to 
developing innovative methods. The school has some 
45 pianos, a network of 15 personal computers (Mac�s and PC�),
plus a long list of sound modules, synthesizers, software 
and hardware devices for teaching and researching purposes. 

JOB DESCRIPTION
As a natural expansion of our "method development" team we 
are looking for a person who will help us to develop a 
Computer Assisted Learning software to teach basic music 
and keyboard skills to very young beginners 
(children ages 3 to 6). 
This software has to be platform independent, with a 
WWW-browser interface and capable of running either on a 
CD-ROM or Internet. This multimedia developer will 
collaborate in the requirements' definition and analysis 
phases, and will be responsible for the software 
implementation. This project is part of a PhD thesis 
that the school owner and founder is doing at the 
University of Glasgow, under the supervision of 
Dr. Stephen Arnold, Director of the Computer Music Studios. 

WHAT CAN WE OFFER
- One year contract, with possible extension, starting in
  September/October 1997

QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. or D.M.A. required; an agressive program of composition, and a
strong background in music theory and demonstrated excellence in the
teaching of theory.

JOB DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Undergraduate teaching in music theory and analysis for music majors
and non-majors, graduate seminars in musical composition, theory, and
the music of the twentieth-century; advising of theses and
dissertations; some committee responsibilities, full participation in
all Departmental affairs.

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
