Position: Chair, Department of Music / Professor

General Information:

The University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for a tenured faculty position at the rank of full professor to serve as Chair of the Department of Music beginning July 2006.


We seek an innovative administrator and musician/scholar who will articulate a vision for a growing and dynamic music department. A significant national or international reputation, terminal degree in music and a minimum of three years experience as department chair or equivalent professional experience is required.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The Chair of the Department of Music reports to the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts. Responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day operations of the department, budget, personnel management, fundraising and grant writing, community service and outreach, scholarly or creative work, and a limited amount of teaching, according to the area of expertise.

Salary Range: Negotiable; commensurate with education and experience.

THE DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC: The Department of Music is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music with 22 full-time faculty, 27 adjunct faculty, and more than 300 undergraduate and graduate music majors. Several studio teachers hold prestigious performance positions in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. The department offers the Bachelor of Music degree with options in music education, performance, theory/composition, jazz studies, music/business, music/media, and music/theatre.
