Position: Assistant Professor of Music

General Information:

The Music and Theater Arts Section at MIT seeks a musicologist for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor position to teach undergraduate subjects in Western Music and in another area of specialization: music theory, music technology, interdisciplinary studies, composition or performance, beginning September 2012.
The teaching load for the rank of Assistant Professor at MIT is two subjects per semester.

The music history/literature program currently includes an introductory survey as well as subjects concerning epochs (Medieval/Renaissance, Baroque, Classic, Romantic, Early-Twentieth, Late Twentieth-Century) and topics )Film Music, Jazz, Opera, Symphony/Concerto). The World Music curriculum currently includes two survey courses and courses concerning regions (Africa, India, Indonesia).

Qualifications:

A Ph.D in musicology is required. Candidates should have manifested excellence and potential growth in at least one field of Western musicology, begun to have published research, and worked within a second field.
