Position: University Lecturer

General Information:

The vacancy is a full-time, permanent position available from 1 August 2019. The position may be divided into two half-time positions. Applicants are therefore asked to state their preference regarding full-time or half-time appointment.

The position\'s subject area is aural skills, with an emphasis on teaching in the bachelor programmes.


Applicants must provide documentation of

Master’s degree in music theory, aural skills or equivalent
Relevant teaching practice, with special emphasis on teaching practice in aural skills at university level, with examples of genre width, professional creativity and versatility in teaching methods
Applicants should submit a list of any published research articles or similar with relevance to the subject area.

Furthermore, applicants are encouraged to give an account of qualifications and experiences that may be of interest, such as, for example:

Performance experience
Choir / orchestra conducting
Composition / arranging
Auditive analysis
Use of digital tools in performance and / or teaching

The appointee must be able to communicate and teach in one of the Scandinavian languages (Norwegian, Swedish, Danish), as well as in English. If the appointee does not have satisfactory oral and written proficiency in a Scandinavian language, it is expected that such skills are acquired within a reasonable time (normally two years). Applicants who are not native English speakers must have satisfactory oral and written proficiency in English.

In the assessment of applicants, emphasis will be placed on specialised qualifications, personal qualities and experience that are significant for the execution of the tasks entailed in the position, including professional insight and reflection, interpersonal skills, ability to initiate and ability to carry out projects. Professional versatility and genre width will be especially emphasized in the assessment. Qualifications and experience of teaching in both classical genre and jazz/improvisation/popular music will be emphasized.

Applicants who are unable to document formal teaching qualifications will, should they be appointed, be required to complete a professional development course of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, or in some other way acquire corresponding formal qualifications within a given period (normally two years).

Initially, we only want applications with CV and any attachments in the form of certificates and diplomas, which are to be uploaded in the digital application portal. After the first assessment of this, selected candidates may be invited to submit additional documentation that they consider may be of importance. Any documentation delivered in physical format, must be submitted in four copies. Shortlisted candidates may be called upon to take part in trial lecture and interview.

The appointee may apply for personal promotion to the post of associate professor if he/she believes to be eligible for that. Such an application can not be promoted at the time of application to the post. Any promotion is personal and has no consequences for the duties of position.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Duties include group tuition in aural skills, mainly on bachelor level, in accordance with current curricula. Teaching duties may also include other subjects, depending on the needs of the institution and the qualifications of the appointee.

The person appointed must actively participate in the Academy’s commitment to digital technology in teaching.

The person appointed must participate in administrative tasks relevant to the position, in collaboration with colleagues. The appointee will also participate in the preparation and execution of entrance auditions and examinations at the Academy.
