Position Description:A scholar, teacher, and advisor within a small,highly successful graduate program in Music Theory. A teacher and advisor within the department's undergraduate Music Theory program. The administrator, in consultation with the Music Department chair, of that portion of the Slee Endowment supporting the chair holder's teaching and research. A significant contributor to graduate programs in Musicology and Composition, as both a teacher and a member of advisory committees.

Qualifications:Ph.D. in Music Theory or the close equivalent.Substantial and preeminent publications in Music Theory. Evidence of a distinguished national and international reputation. Record of effective teaching.

Areas of Expertise:In addition to contributing to the standard undergraduate curriculum in Music Theory, the successful candidate will demonstrate a breadth of engagement with contemporary Music Theory, including critical approaches that cross traditional disciplinary boundaries. We seek a candidate whose abilities complement those of the current faculty members in Music Theory.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY: Mills College, Oakland, California

The Music Department at Mills College is searching for a Musicologist and/or Music Theorist for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 2003. Teaching duties include undergraduate courses in classic and romantic music, tonal harmony, and a graduate seminar in music history. Possible areas of specialization also include performance, feminist scholarship, and African American music.

Skidmore College Music Department seeks a teacher-scholar with wide-ranging interests and expertise in contemporary and 20th-century musics, broadly considered.

The Trustee Visiting Scholar position is a one-year renewable position, beginning with the 2003-04 academic year, and has the possibility of turning into a tenure-track position. The Trustee Visiting Scholar will play an active role in shaping a new curriculum, both for majors and non-majors in an undergraduate liberal arts environment, that would foster an understanding of the rich variety and interrelationships within the contemporary musical world. Cornell University

Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships at Cornell University, 2003-04

Postdoctoral teaching-research fellowships in the humanities, each awarded for the one-year period beginning July 2003, offer stipends of $34,000. While in residence at Cornell, postdoctoral fellows hold department affiliation and have limited teaching duties (one course per semester) and the opportunity for scholarly work. POSITION: Historical Musicology

DUTIES & QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in musicology expected by time ofappointment; college teaching experience;specialization in baroque or classical music preferred;ability to teach a wide range of classes in music historyat the graduate and undergraduate levels, including the undergraduate survey.

Maintain active scholarly production suitable for aresearch institution; serve on graduate student advisory committees; direct theses and other research projects when appropriate.

RANK & SALARY: Assistant Professor, tenure track. Salary dependent upon qualifications and experience.
