Institution: Oberlin Conservatory

Position: Assistant Professor, two positions

General Information:

The Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track faculty positions in Music Theory and Aural Skills, beginning with the 2007-08 academic year.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
• Commitment to excellence in the teaching of Music Theory and Aural Skills. One or more years of full-time teaching experience (beyond the graduate assistant level) is preferred.
• Completion of the PhD in Music Theory by June 2007.
• Keyboard competence.
• Evidence of scholarly productivity in the field of music theory and analysis.
• Background in performance or composition indicating active and accomplished musicianship.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The individual appointed will perform the following specific duties:
• Teach courses drawn from the lower-division theory and aural skills sequence, which involves four semesters of harmony, voice leading, and analysis (concentrating on music of the eighteenth through the twentieth centuries).
• Teach upper-division courses in form, counterpoint, twentieth-century techniques, or other special topics, assigned according to the needs of the division.
• Participate fully in departmental placement examinations and meetings as scheduled, and in responsibilities such as private readings and supervision of Theory Majors’ Senior Projects.

The Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, founded in 1865, is the nation's oldest continuously operating conservatory, and the only major music school in the country linked with a preeminent liberal arts college.
