Position: Assistant Professor of Contemporary Critical Theory/Musicology

General Information:

9-month tenure earning faculty position to start on August 7, 2015.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications: PhD or equivalent terminal degree in either music theory, musicology or ethnomusicology, required at time of appointment; established research agenda with a strong potential of future productivity; teaching experience at the post-secondary level in area of specialization with secondary areas as required by school.

Preferred qualifications: Strong preference will be given to research interests incorporating a global focus or North American/European topics with strong ties to a global agenda. Evidence of potential for significant scholarly contributions to the field and demonstrated excellence in teaching. A strong interest in pursuing collaborations across the College of The Arts, the University and in the global community. Experience in advising/mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.


Job Description/Responsibilities:

The School of Music nurtures a supportive community of faculty interested in interdisciplinary partnerships, global engagement, and critical thinking. The successful candidate will be responsible for undergraduate and graduate courses in area of specialization, as well as courses relevant to their experience and expertise as related to
needs of the School of Music. Duties will include developing a broad range of research and teaching interests in any area(s) of music theory, musicology or ethnomusicology, with emphasis outside the Western canon being encouraged. The candidate will pursue interdisciplinary projects across the college and university, and establish a global presence through exchange programs for students and faculty. Exploration of new ways to train undergraduate and graduate music majors and contributions to curricular development based on research and teaching interests will be expected. The candidate will be active in service to the school, university and profession.
