QUALIFICATIONS:
Earned Ph.D. in Music Theory is required. The successful candidate will possess teaching and research abilities at the highest level, and demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of current music theory pedagogy (including the possible integration of classical, jazz, popular, and non-Western musical styles) and a facility with instructional technologies. The candidate should possess superior administrative and organizational skills. A successful track record of music theory curriculum development at the university level along with the ability to determine program effectiveness through student assessment is preferred. The candidate must show evidence of an ongoing commitment to advancing the profession as reflected in an active research agenda in music theory, including a promising record of publication. Evidence of commitment to university and community collaborations is desirable.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

POSITION DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The School of Music and Dance is seeking a tenure-track faculty member at the assistant professor level for a Fall 2016 appointment. The position requires the candidate to design, teach, and supervise all aspects of the music theory (Comprehensive Musicianship) program. Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate music theory courses, graduate music theory seminars, and other areas that match the candidate’s qualifications, background, and interests. In addition to teaching, the candidate will provide leadership for the theory program, including assessment, curricular development, and the coordination and training of graduate assistants to assist in the delivery of music theory classes. The candidate will be encouraged to contribute to collaborative relationships across the School of Music and Dance, cultivate and maintain active connections with music theory instructors and community college instructors in the region, and participate in the recruitment and retention of outstanding students. Active and sustained involvement in professional growth beyond the university is required to obtain tenure and promotion, as is excellence in teaching and participation in faculty governance.


Salary Range: RANK AND SALARY: Appointment will be at the rank of assistant professor with salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
