Institution: Green River College

Position: Music Instructor - Tenure Track

General Information:

Green River College seeks a music instructor to teach first year music theory and aural skills (ear training), and courses in MIDI technology including music notation and sequencing programs. Strong piano skills would be beneficial and other courses are possible depending on the expertise of the candidate. We seek an instructor who embraces the community and technical college mission and the faculty role of contributing to the general education of students who will apply learning to the world of work and transfer their education to a university.

This is a full-time tenure track position beginning Fall 2018, continuing with annual nine month contracts.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
> Master's Degree in Music
> Experience teaching college-level music classes as teacher of record.
> Demonstrated working knowledge of current MIDI technologies and music software.
> Ability to creatively adapt teaching methods and curriculum to meet the needs of students with varying levels of musical knowledge and abilities.
> Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators.
> Demonstrated experience, expertise, cultural competencies, and commitment to equity in working with students, particularly students from underrepresented and underserved communities, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds and identities.
> Demonstrated experience working with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds as well as those with disabilities.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
> Two years' experience (part-time or full-time) successfully teaching music theory and aural skills.
> Experience teaching MIDI technology classes.
> Experience teaching music at the community college level.
> Strong piano skills and knowledge of jazz and contemporary styles.
> Participation in professional organizations.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

> Teach first year music theory and aural skills and possibly second year music theory and aural skills in the future, using pedagogical methods appropriate for community college students, possibly leaning towards more contemporary styles.
> Teach computer music courses that rely on current sequencing technology.
> Build a vibrant program that is current with the latest trends in music technology and attractive to and appropriate for a community college general student as well as a music major transfer student.
> Other courses may include: songwriting, piano class, and/or courses that are in line with the expertise of the candidate.
> Manage music lab that includes electronic piano/computer work stations, music software, and any other necessary equipment needed for classes in the lab.
> Advise students, serve on committees and perform other duties as outlined in the negotiated collective bargaining agreement.
> Participate in college and division professional activities.
> Maintain strong collegial and collaborative relationships within the Music Department, the Fine Arts Division, and the Green River College campus community.


Salary Range: The salary will be determined according to the candidate's educational background, teaching experience and applicable work experience.
