Position: Assistant Professor

General Information:

Full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music Theory & Aural Skills / Coordinator of Music Theory.

Qualifications:

Completed doctorate required. Candidates must demonstrate a record of excellence in teaching music theory and aural skills at the undergraduate level.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Leadership and vision to facilitate the development and delivery of a unified approach to music theory and musicianship throughout the music core curricula is essential. Implementation of symbiotic collaboration with the other curricula in the School of Music toward an integrative model of college music education is strongly desired. Musicianship training must support all degree programs including music performance, music education, commercial music, music business, and musical theatre. Primary responsibilities include: teaching and coordinating the music theory and aural skills curriculum; engaging in recruitment and retention initiatives; maintaining an active scholarly profile and current knowledge of trends in music theory pedagogy. Additional duties may be assigned according to the candidate’s areas of expertise and/or needs of the music program. Candidates demonstrating commitment to academic advising, entrepreneurship, and community outreach will receive strong consideration. Additional expectations include university service in the form of faculty governance and involvement with the campus community through attendance of recitals, concerts, workshops and festivals.
