Position: Assistant Professor of Music Theory

General Information:

The Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track nine-month faculty position to begin in August 2019.

Qualifications:

An excellent record as a teacher/scholar and evidence of successful, college-level teaching experience. A minimum of two years of teaching experience in the undergraduate theory/aural skills core as the instructor of record. A doctorate in music theory or related field completed by October 1, 2019. A strong research agenda within music theory and music theory pedagogy and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education and current pedagogical practices. The committee is especially interested in candidates with research in any of the following areas: music theory pedagogy, public music theory, distance education, film music, and popular music.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Music Theorist to teach music theory/aural skills courses within the undergraduate core. Additional teaching assignments may include upper level/graduate analysis, music theory pedagogy and other courses related to the candidate’s interest and background. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue an active research agenda and participate fully in the responsibilities of faculty membership including curriculum development, mentoring, student advisement, and service activities. The successful candidate must actively and intentionally exemplify diversity and inclusion in teaching, curriculum, and service.

Salary Range: Salary commensurate with experience and educational preparation.
