Position: Lecturer of Composition and Theory, Non-Tenure Track

General Information:

The Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University invites applications for a nine-month, non-tenure-track faculty position to begin in August 2019.

Qualifications:

Evidence of accomplishment as a composer and college/university-level teacher required. Doctorate must be completed by August 2019. A minimum of two years of teaching experience in the undergraduate theory/aural skills core. The candidate is also required to demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education and mentoring. The successful candidate will provide evidence of ongoing, intentional commitment to diversity and inclusion through professional interactions and service as well as teaching or scholarship and creative activity.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include individual and class instruction in composition at both the undergraduate and masters level and undergraduate classroom teaching within the theory/aural skills core. Other teaching responsibilities may include orchestration, electronic music, and special topics theory/composition courses. The successful candidate will participate in the responsibilities of faculty membership including curriculum development, student advisement, recruitment, and service activities.

Salary Range: Salary commensurate with experience and educational preparation.
