Position: Assistant, Associate or Full Professor – Music (Theory, Aural Skills and Keyboard Workshop)

General Information:

The Music and Art Department at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) invites highly motivated applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant, Associate or full Professor in music with expertise in digital and popular music, as well as jazz and traditional music theory, starting Fall 2019.

Qualifications:

For Positions of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor:

The Department of Music & Art requires candidates to have an earned doctorate in music (Ph.D, DMA, DM, EdD in Music) with proven college teaching experience in core curriculum courses.

Candidates must have expertise in digital and popular music, with additional experience in jazz and traditional music theory preferred. Candidates must also have demonstrated interests in productive scholarship or creative achievement. Preferred qualifications include experience in the music industry, instructional technology, teaching experience in K-12 and two-year associate degree programs. Ability to work closely with colleagues to further the goals of the department is essential.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities for music faculty include teaching courses in their area of expertise, music core curriculum courses and historical survey classes. Candidates for this position will coordinate the music core classes, and teach a variety of courses such as digital music, popular music, theory, jazz theory, aural skills, and music notation software. Other teaching duties assigned according to the candidate’s interests and expertise.

Research, publication, and creative scholarship are expected for tenure and promotion. Other areas of responsibility include curriculum development, participation in departmental and college-wide committees, grant writing, assessment, faculty development, student mentoring, academic advisement, and activities in support of the department. The qualified candidate must be able to work day, evening, and/or weekend classes, as needed.
