Institution: Frost School of Music at the University of Miami

Position: Assistant Professor of Practice

General Information:

The appointment is a non-tenure-track, renewable nine-month appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor of Professional Practice, Music Theory and Composition. The position will begin August 2014.

Qualifications:

DMA/Ph.D degree in Composition or Music Theory - candidates with exceptional professional experience will also be considered. Demonstrated success as a teacher at the collegiate level required. We seek an individual with strong commitment to teaching and interest in new pedagogical paradigms. Preference given to candidates who specialize in post-tonal music and electroacoustic music. Applicants with knowledge and/or experience with on-line instruction especially encouraged to apply.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The appointee will teach undergraduate post-tonal theory; analysis and history of electroacoustic music; digital sound design, digital audio, and graduate theory review courses, working with digital media, provide leadership with respect to curriculum development, serve on dissertation committees, and serve on University-wide committees. The successful applicant may be called upon to coordinate courses in post-tonal theory taught by multiple teaching assistants. Specific teaching duties may change depending on the changing needs of the department or the areas of specialization provided by the successful applicant. The candidate is not required but is encouraged to be involved in research or creative activity

Salary Range: negotiable
