Position: Assistant Professor in Music Theory (two positions)

General Information:

Two Assistant Professors for 9-month tenure-track positions in Music Theory who will contribute to the research, teaching, and service missions of the University of South Florida. Anticipated start date is August 2008.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

1. PhD in Music Theory or PhD in Music Theory/Composition (all degree requirements must be completed by August 2008 appointment), 2. Experience in teaching music theory at the college level, 3. Demonstrated evidence of commitment to research in Music Theory.

Preferred Qualities:

1. Evidence of a research agenda in music theory, 2. Experience in teaching written and aural theory, 3. Evidence of leadership potential for coordinating a music theory program, 4. Evidence of innovative instructional techniques.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include: Producing substantial scholarly work of nationally recognized quality in music theory, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in written and aural music theory, integrating instructional technology in theory courses, guiding undergraduate and graduate student research, participating in faculty governance and professional service activities. Other duties will be assigned according to the expertise of the chosen candidate.

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

The School of Music, a full member of NASM, is a prominent constituent in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Current initiatives of the School include an expansion of national and international reputation, of research/creative productivity, and of graduate studies. The School offers the B.M., B.A., B.S., M.M., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees and has a full-time faculty of 34, 24 visiting and adjunct faculty, over 250 undergraduate majors and 75 graduate students.
