Position: Assistant Professor of Music Theory

General Information:

The Music Department at Manhattanville College, in Purchase, New York, invites applications for the position of full time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music Theory. Fall 2012 is our anticipated start date subject to pending budgetary approval.

Qualifications:

An earned doctorate in music by September 2012, classroom competence with keyboard and CAI, two or more years of successful college teaching experience of music theory/aural skills required.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Especially desired qualifications include proficiency in one or more of the following areas: composition, ethnomusicology, world musics, popular music, music technology, conducting and instrumental/vocal performance and significant professional experience in the music world. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate music theory courses, including analysis and aural skills and on a rotating basis, composition, counterpoint, and upper level theory courses. Additional teaching opportunities may include courses drawn from the applicant’s field of expertise and/or that explore the development of interdisciplinary courses. Advising, service to the college, and participation in the college’s general education programs are expected of all faculty.
