Position: Assistant Professor or Instructor in Music

General Information:

Full-time, tenure-track position beginning August 13, 2012.

Qualifications:

We seek a specialist in Music Theory with an interest in teaching at a small, residential, liberal arts college that has been recognized nationally for its high academic quality. Doctorate in music theory, composition, or a related field preferred; ABDs will be considered. Candidates with their doctorate by date of appointment will be appointed as assistant professor; an ABD will be appointed as instructor. At least one year of college teaching experience is preferred. Excellence in teaching and a commitment to productive scholarship and/or creative activity are essential to gaining tenure and promotion. Potential for academic leadership in a liberal arts setting will be considered.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of this position include: teaching a four-semester music theory sequence, including aural skills, for majors; teaching courses in form and analysis and in counterpoint; and offering other courses in music consistent with the needs of the university and one’s qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate must be committed to productive scholarship and/or creative activity, as well as to the programmatic development of the UMM music program. Service and outreach to the university, community, and profession are essential.


Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
