Position: Assistant Professor of Composition

General Information:

The Department of Music at the University of Chicago invites applications for a tenure-track position in Composition. Rank: Assistant Professor. Minimum teaching load: four to five courses/year; graduate and undergraduate, plus usual advising and committee responsibilities.

Qualifications:

PhD or equivalent preferred by October 1, 2012.

Salary Range: unspecified

Items to Send:

Required elements of the dossier are:

1) CV and cover letter addressing work as a composer and teacher and future plans; these must be submitted online to the Academic Careers web site at http://academiccareers.uchicago.edu/applicants/Central?quickFind=51898

2) Two representative compositions plus their scores (if applicable) and audio of them in two different formats (compressed and large):
a) compressed mp3 audio files of both compositions above should be sent to cloghess@uchicago.edu NOTE: Names of mp3 files should be in format "LASTFirst_title.mp3". Questions directly related to sending of mp3 files should be sent to gregg@uchicago.edu;
b) CDs or DVDs containing large audio files of the two submitted compositions (i.e. in performances or as electronic works), playable on PC or Mac, plus hard copies of scores (if applicable) must be mailed to: Melanie Cloghessy, Project Assistant, Department of Music, 1010 E. 59th St., Chicago, IL 60637.

3) Three letters of reference. (Additional letters of reference may also be submitted.) Submission of letters of recommendation should be emailed to kholmes@uchicago.edu or, if necessary, hard copy can be mailed to Kathy Holmes, University of Chicago, Dept. of Music, 1010 E. 59th Street., Chicago, IL 60637.

Application review will begin November 14 and continue until April 1, 2012, or until position is filled. For fullest consideration, all materials including letters (electronic and/or mailed), should be received by November 14, 2011. No materials will be accepted after April 1, 2012.
