Position: Assistant Professor

General Information:

The Department of Music at Washington College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Music Theory/Composition at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2012.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Music Theory or D.M.A. in Composition by the beginning of the appointment, be a creative and engaging teacher, and have the potential for outstanding scholarship. The candidate should be an accomplished performer on his/her primary instrument/voice, be able to accompany students on piano, have experience working with both majors and non-majors, and demonstrate a strong commitment to liberal arts education. It is desirable that candidates have experience conducting/coaching ensembles. Preference will be given to vocalists or reed players.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The requirements of the position include teaching a four-semester theory sequence, upper level theory/compositions courses, and departmental electives; directing student ensembles (i.e. Vocal Consort, Chorus, Chamber Groups, etc.); and advising senior capstones. Normal teaching load at the college is three courses per term, with ensembles counting as a half course.

Salary Range: Commensurate with Experience
