CIRMMT is a multi-disciplinary research group that brings together researchers and students from McGill University (Faculties of Music, Arts, Science, Engineering, Education and Medicine), l?Universit? de Montr?al (Facult?s de musique et des arts & des sciences), l?Universit? de Sherbrooke (Facult? de g?nie) and other Universities and research facilities from Quebec and around the world. It also includes industrial and research associates, visiting scholars and artists, and administrative and technical staff. CIRMMT actively seeks to bridge the gap between scientific/technological research and artistic practice and has recently updated its research axes to reflect its current research directions and to increase collaboration between its members. CIRMMT seeks to develop innovative approaches to the scientific study of music media and technology, to apply newer technologies in science and the creative arts, and to provide an advanced research training environment.

Qualifications:


We seek individuals with an international profile who will maintain a high level of professional activity in the field and are able to teach courses and supervise students in university programs up to the doctoral level. Applicants must have a passionate commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and a significant record of accomplishment in scientific- and/or humanities-based research related to sound and music, as well as a demonstrated ability to obtain research funding. The successful candidate will show strong leadership and have a proven track record as an effective resource manager, team builder, communicator, and administrator capable of leading a complex research enterprise. He or she will be familiar with multiple research paradigms (fine arts, humanities, science and technology) and will have experience with constructing and overseeing large research budgets. Fluency in French and English is an asset.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The Schulich School of Music invites applications for the position of Director of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology, for an initial 3-year term, renewable. The position will be a tenured or tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor specializing in the digital humanities in music, broadly defined to include musicology, music analysis, performance, pedagogy, or information science. Candidates with diverse perspectives on the intersection between computing and the humanities in music are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be nominated for a Canada Research Chair (SSHRC Tier I or II) in the Digital Humanities in Music.

Reporting to the CIRMMT Board of Directors, the Director oversees all aspects of the Centre?s activities and is assisted by two Associate Directors with complementary profiles: scientific/technological and artistic. The new Director will work with the CIRMMT community to increase CIRMMT's visibility both locally and internationally and to stimulate and facilitate new research directions and collaborations, both among CIRMMT members and with external partners. The Director is responsible for assuring the sustainability and growth of the Centre by actively pursuing a wide range of funding sources, from research grants and contracts to partnerships with industry and the private sector.
