Position: Visiting Assistant Professor in Music Theory & Composition

General Information:

The position of Visiting Assistant Professor in Music Theory and Composition is a full time, one year, non-tenure track faculty position in the Schwob School of Music within Columbus State University’s College of the Arts.

The Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University is located in the state-of-the art RiverCenter, a cornerstone of CSU’s RiverPark campus, where all the academic units of the College of the Arts are located. The quality of the faculty and the facilities is bringing international attention to the school. The school regularly hosts guest artists from around the world. With about 250 music majors, it offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in performance and music education as well as a liberal arts music degree.

Qualifications:

The incumbent should have a Master’s Degree in Music and outstanding credentials as a teacher. The selected candidate must also possess demonstrated abilities as a scholar and/or composer.

Preferred Qualifications
A Doctorate in Music is preferred, although ABD candidates will also be considered. Preference may also be given to candidates with the ability to teach a graduate seminar course in music history.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The incumbent will teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in music core areas of music theory, aural skills, and music history as well as teach instrumentation and orchestration. The selected candidate will teach, mentor, and foster a community of student composers and will pursue research and/or creative activity.
