Position: Assistant Professor of Music

General Information:

The appointee will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in composition (including private instruction), music theory (both tonal and atonal/ post-tonal), and other areas, including general education, but also depending on the candidate’s expertise and the needs of the Department.The appointee will be expected to engage in student advising activities, serve as advisor to students in the areas of composition and music theory, and supervise student projects and research. Additional assignments may include teaching courses in support of the music program and other duties assigned by the Chair of the Department of Music. Faculty members are expected to engage in appropriate creative and scholarly endeavors, and to serve the profession and the university.

Qualifications:

Candidates with significant collegiate teaching experience in the areas of composition, analysis, and music theory who hold an earned doctorate in music are preferred. Applicants having a Master’s degree in music and a substantial record of professional experience may be considered. Applicants should be active composers with the potential for significant achievement in the field of composition. The ideal candidate will have an interest in a variety of genres, experience with music composition software and technology, and the ability to teach curriculum in these areas. Areas of interest might include, but are not limited to, music for film or games, electroacoustic music, or music in the vernacular tradition.
