Qualifications:

An earned doctoral degree in Music Theory or related field from an accredited college or university is preferred at time of appointment. Applicants with considerable progress toward doctoral degree completion by appointment date or a M.A./M.M. in Music Theory or related field with substantial teaching experience will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates who have two or more years of successful theory teaching at the college/university level.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:
- Evidence of successful theory teaching at the college/university level;
- Evidence of successful teaching of Ear Training;
- Commitment to and/or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds; and
- Ability and/or interest to teach a broad range of courses (majors, general education students, etc.).

At the time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States. Evidence of degree(s) is required at time of hire.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Humboldt State University’s Department of Music invites applications for one full-time visiting faculty position in Music Theory and Ear Training for academic year 2015/16. Initial appointment will be for the Fall 2015 semester. Subsequent reappointment for Spring 2016 will be contingent upon satisfactory performance evaluation.

Primary responsibility will be to teach courses in Music Theory and Ear Training. Other courses (such as Music Appreciation, studio lessons, etc.) will be assigned depending upon candidate expertise. Instructional assignments will be consistent with the programmatic needs of the department and students. The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members in temporary positions are teaching, maintaining office hours and working collaboratively and productively with colleagues.
