Position: Assistant Professor - Music Theory

Ph.D. in Music Theory, or equivalent degree at time of appointment, demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching, and an active research profile.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The areas of specialization are open, but particular consideration will be given to candidates with a strong scholarly expertise in one or more of the following areas: 16th to 20th-century music, the study of form, and interest in recent theoretical approaches, such as Neo-Riemannian and transformational theories.
Teach graduate courses in music analysis, theory pedagogy, and advanced counterpoint, as well as open-topic seminars on music theory and its related (sub-)disciplines; teach, as needed, undergraduate courses, such as counterpoint, form analysis, and 20th-century techniques; additional instructional assignments are possible, based on the candidate's background and experience. Duties may also include: participation in the theory-area initiatives in graduate-student recruitment, advising and mentoring, participation on thesis committees for the B.M., MM, MA, PhD and DMA programs, and participation on committees at the level of the division, college and university.
