Position: Assistant Professor (tenure track)

General Information:

The Pomona College Department of Music invites applications for a tenure-track position in Music beginning with the 2007-8 academic year at the rank of Assistant Professor with teaching specialization in music theory and professional specialization in music theory, composition, or a related area.

Qualifications:

As a department in which scholarship and performance are equally valued parts of a liberal-arts college curriculum, we seek a scholar-musician who shares these values. We further seek a colleague who can build bridges to the wider campus community and we welcome candidates with varying interests, such as cultural studies, media, popular culture, jazz, ethnomusicology, gender studies, music perception and cognition, electronic and digital technology, philosophy, or aesthetics. A doctorate or appropriate terminal degree is expected.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The 4-course annual teaching load will include core courses in the music theory sequence each year. Other teaching responsibilities may include courses in general music, aural skills, the Freshman Critical Inquiry program, and courses in area of expertise.
