Position: Visiting Faculty

General Information:

Humboldt State University's Department of Music invites applications for one full-time Visiting Faculty appointment in Music Theory and Ear Training for academic year 2016/2017. Initial appointment will be for the Fall 2016 semester. Subsequent reappointment for Spring 2017 will be contingent upon satisfactory performance evaluation.

Qualifications:

An earned doctoral degree or equivalent in Music Theory or related field from an accredited college or university is preferred at the time of appointment. Applicants with considerable progress toward terminal degree complete by appointment date or a MA/MM in Music Theory or related field and substantial teaching experience will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates who have two or more years of successful theory teaching at the college/university level.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:

- Evidence of successful theory teaching at the college/university level;
- Evidence of successful teaching of Ear Training;
- Commitment to and/or experience promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds; and
- Ability and/or interest to teach a broad range of courses (major, general education, etc.).

At the time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States. Job Description/Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility will be to teach courses in Music Theory and Ear Training. Other courses (such as Music Appreciation, Orchestration, studio lessons, etc.) will be assigned depending upon candidate expertise and department need. Instructional assignments will be consistent with the programmatic needs of the department and students.

The primary professional responsibilities of visiting faculty are teaching, maintaining office hours and working collaboratively and productively with colleagues.
