Position: Junior researcher

General Information:

As of 1 August 2017 or by agreement, the research group of the HKB is offering a position as Junior researcher (60%) in the SNSF project “Integrative Listening. A Historical Perspective on Aural Skills Training” (Swiss National Science Foundation, No. 169368) at the Bern University of the Arts. The position is connected to a PhD study course starting in the Autumn semester 2017. The appointment is limited to three years. The salary follows the guidelines of the Swiss National Science Foundation for doctoral students. The working language is English.

Qualifications:

The candidate must hold a Master’s degree in music theory, music or musicology. Proven interest in the history of music and music theory is desired. A good working knowledge of German, Italian, French and English is required.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

As a member of an international research team, you will contribute to the research project aimed at building a historically informed framework for the discipline of aural skills training as taught at music conservatories in present-day German-speaking countries (“Gehörbildung”). Your contribution will consist in drawing upon archival sources to follow the development of this discipline at selected European music conservatoires (in France, Italy, and German-speaking countries) during the nineteenth century. Analyses of selected compositions by the most influential conservatoire teachers are also envisaged. You will have the possibility of participating at international conferences and are expected to write a book (dissertation) as final result of your independent research.

Salary Range: 47'000 to 50'000 CHF p.a.
