Position: Assistant Professor of Music Theory/Music Director

The College is seeking applicants for a full-time Assistant Professor of Music Theory and Music Director position for the Music department located in Milwaukee, WI.

Qualifications:

Qualifications:

> PhD in Music with Music Theory specialization
> Experience teaching music theory and other music topics for undergraduate majors and Gen Ed students
> Fulfilled administrative duties within a music department (performance, curriculum organization, staffing)
> Holds the PhD in Music, with Music Theory specialization at the Masters level at a minimum
> Knowledge of current approaches in music theory and composition, with diverse music literature, including use of technology
> Strong interpersonal skills in teaching undergraduates and with colleagues, creative in curricular development
> Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the College’s strategic plan of inclusion.


Job Description/Responsibilities:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities.
The following information is not meant to be all-inclusive. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

> Teach core music theory classes, aural analysis and keyboard labs for undergraduate Music majors
> Rotate into a 1st year Intro to Music section for mixed Gen Ed and Music major population
> Develop/teach music and digital technology classes to serve both Gen Ed students and Music majors
> Participate with faculty in Music and other fields for curriculum development in a collaborative manner
> Administer department protocols for Performance, collaborate with colleagues for course-planning and other department functions.
> Develop expertise in ability areas relevant to teaching assignments, serve on college-wide committees
> Preference given to candidates with strong academic ability to facilitate musical performances and ensembles

Alverno’s Music Department is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA). Our location in a large metropolitan area with many music resources and a high concentration of working music therapists allows students in the department to experience many kinds of music-making while also gaining clinical experience working with music therapists in a wide variety of settings. The Music Department seeks a fresh perspective on musicianship training, with literature that reflects diverse, contemporary music styles and integration of relevant music technology. Duties that support the administration of a small undergraduate Music Department will also be part of this position. This is a full-time exempt position contingent on funding. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience.
