Position: Assistant Professor

Qualifications:

PhD in Music Theory or related field. PhD must be completed by the time of hire. The area of research specialization is open. Candidates with primary or secondary expertise in jazz, folk, popular, or non-western music are encouraged to apply. We are especially interested in individuals whose approach to teaching is informed by current trends in music theory pedagogy and who have experience in curriculum development. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Pursue an active research agenda with the goal of establishing a national reputation by the time of tenure. Mentor undergraduate and graduate researchers and advise theses and dissertations. Work closely with existing faculty to develop undergraduate theory and aural training curricula. Coordinate and teach core undergraduate theory and supervise graduate student teachers. Teach upper-division undergraduate and graduate courses according to departmental needs and the candidate\'s areas of expertise. Serve on school and university committees.
