Institution: The Colburn School

Position: Department Chair and member of the faculty

The Colburn School seeks a full-time, senior-level faculty member to oversee, assess, direct, co-ordinate all aspects of music theory and musicianship instruction in its collegiate and pre-collegiate units, functioning as chair of the department within the institution, commencing in August 2018.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate excellence as a musician, theorist, pedagogue and colleague throughout the review process. It is expected that the successful candidate will have an earned Doctorate in Music Theory from an accredited institution, with significant teaching experience at the collegiate level, and ideally also at the pre-collegiate level. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the highest level of musical skills and knowledge, with an awareness and understanding of a conservatory environment, a commitment to excellence, creative thinking to develop learning connections that support, inform and enhance the performance focus of programs within the institution, and the evolving nature of music education in the 21st century.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

1) oversee music theory and musicianship instruction at the Colburn School; 2) teach coursework at the graduate, undergraduate and pre-collegiate levels in music theory and musicianship in co-ordination with other faculty members; 3) assess current theory and musicianship offerings within the institution, align, develop and administer sequential curricular offerings in alignment with the mission and goals of the institution and its academic units; 4) supervise departmental colleagues and advise students as assigned. An active presence in the field of music theory in support of the successful candidate’s work at the institution is encouraged. Appropriate committee work related to the position is expected.
