Position: Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The Department of Music at the University of Notre Dame invites applications from music theorists and composer-theorists for a one-year position at the rank of visiting assistant teaching professor. A completed doctoral degree is preferred, although advanced ABDs of exceptional merit will be considered. The area of scholarly specialization is open, but the successful candidate must have substantial teaching experience and a demonstrated record of excellence offering harmony and voice leading courses for undergraduate majors. Depending on departmental needs, the candidate may also teach the required course on 20th/21st-century music for majors; an advanced elective in his/her area of specialization cross-listed for majors and graduate students in ND’s Program in Sacred Music; and a theory course for non-majors in the broader liberal arts curriculum. Teaching load: 3 + 3. A commitment to teaching core theory at the highest level and specifically in a liberal arts environment is essential.
