Position: Part-Time Faculty

Qualifications:

A minimum of a Master of Music (preferred), or demonstrable equivalent professional experience.

Demonstrated successful college level teaching experience is strongly preferred.

Strong knowledge of music theory and how it applies to practical music making (performance and analysis, composition, arranging).

Experience having taught music theory at the college level preferred (music theory pedagogy).

Preference will be given to applicants who are able to fulfill multiple positions within the Setnor School of Music.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The Setnor School of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part-Time Instructor to teach MTC 145 Diatonic Harmony I and MTC 146 Diatonic Harmony II, both 3 credit hour courses.

MTC145: Instruction of music fundamentals: elementary counterpoint, basic principles of diatonic harmony, voice leading and analysis, all diatonic triads and their inversions. Primarily for music majors.

MTC146: Instruction of diatonic harmony and voice leading continued from MTC145 – Diatonic Harmony I. Seventh chords. Nonharmonic tones. Common chord modulation. Melody harmonization. Analysis of music literature.

Duties:

Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.


Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.

Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.

Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.

Meeting all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.

Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.

Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.

Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.

Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.

Salary Range: Minimum $1,325/per credit hour
