Faculty members are expected to demonstrate excellent teaching ability and a track record of (or strong potential for) scholarly or creative work. Successful candidates will have a PhD or DMA in one of the teaching areas listed above.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The Calvin College Music Department invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Theory and Musicianship. Our ideal candidate is a generalist with broad musical expertise who can teach our theory and musicianship sequence, including keyboard harmony, as well one or more of the following areas (listed in order of need): music technology (teaching Sibelius and ProTools basics, maintaining our lab and composition studio), composition, piano, strings, and/or voice. The opening is at the rank of Assistant Professor and the position begins August 2019.

The standard teaching load is 21-24 semester hours distributed over two semesters and a January interim term. Faculty are expected to pursue an active scholarship agenda, to advise undergraduate students, and to serve on college and departmental committees.

ABOUT THE MUSIC PROGRAM

The Department of Music equips undergraduate students to be versatile musicians who can bring their gifts to a wide variety of contexts and vocations. The department has approximately 80 music majors and minors and serves another 400 students who participate in ensembles and private lessons. Departmental highlights include over 60 music events each year, domestic and international touring programs, and the beautiful Covenant Fine Arts Center, renovated and expanded in 2010 to include more teaching studios and practice rooms, both an Auditorium and Recital Hall, and a dedicated music computer lab.
