Position: Assistant Professor of Music Theory / Director of Keyboard Studies

General Information:

The University of Mary Washington invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Music Theory / Director of Keyboard Studies to begin on August 16, 2019. A completed doctorate in Music Theory is required by the start date, as well as advanced keyboard study and an additional strong area of teaching expertise. Job Description/Responsibilities:

The primary duties of this position are:

Teaching—Teach all or the bulk of the music theory sequence for majors (three semesters, each with corequisite aural skills courses), and some combination of the following: other theory electives for music majors and minors; a non-major theory course within the general education curriculum; applied piano (or organ) or class piano; coaching of chamber (or other) ensembles.

Scholarship—Remain active in the discipline in research and/or performance, in particular mentoring undergraduate research and performance projects.

Service—Supervise placement of students into appropriate keyboard study; collaborate departmental colleagues in curricular development and initiatives; serve as academic advisor to students; serve on college and institutional committees as appointed or elected.

6) a performance portfolio, and

The performance portfolio should include a pdf document of not more than 10 pages with any of the following: repertoire lists, concert programs, press reviews or the like; and 1-2 short audio-visual files of performances and/or rehearsals (not studio recordings).

Completed applications must be received by 11:59pm on Nov. 15, 2018. Campus interviews will include some sort of performance component as well as classroom teaching and research presentation.
