Institution: Colburn School

Position: Chair and Faculty Member, Music Theory

General Information:

The Colburn School seeks a full-time, senior-level faculty member to oversee, assess, direct, co-ordinate all aspects of music theory and musicianship instruction in the Conservatory of Music, functioning as chair of music theory for the Conservatory and in an advisory capacity to the Music Academy, commencing in August 2019.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate excellence as a musician, theorist, pedagogue and colleague throughout the review process. It is expected that the successful candidate will have an earned Doctorate from an accredited institution (Doctorate in Music Theory preferred), with a minimum of 5-7 years of faculty teaching experience at the collegiate level. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the highest level of musical skills and knowledge with an awareness and understanding of a conservatory environment, a commitment to excellence, creative thinking to develop learning connections that support, inform and enhance the performance focus of programs within the institution, and the evolving nature of music education in the 21st century.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Duties include:
1) oversee music theory and musicianship instruction;
2) teach coursework in music theory and musicianship in co-ordination with other faculty members;
3) assess current theory and musicianship offerings within the institution;
4) develop and assist with administering sequential curricular offerings in the Music Academy to bring into alignment with Conservatory standards and expectations;
5) supervise departmental colleagues and advise students as assigned.

An active presence in the field of music theory and/or music pedagogy in support of the successful candidate's work at the institution is encouraged.

Salary Range: Salary will be commensurate with experience.
