Institution: Middle Tennessee State University

Position: Adjunct Instructor of Commercial Musicianship

General Information:

The Department of Recording Industry at MTSU—located southeast of Nashville, TN in Murfreesboro, TN—is looking for adjunct instructors of music theory and musicianship in commercial, popular music styles for the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters.

Qualifications:

Candidates must hold at least a Master's degree in a related area. Basic keyboard and singing proficiency is preferred.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The instructors will be expected to teach undergraduate coursework in basic music theory and musicianship within commercial, popular music styles. The curriculum—including lesson plans, homework assignments, and test materials—has already been fully developed, so minimal preparation should be required from the instructor. Much of the grading has also been automated so as to minimize time outside of class. That said, instructors are free to develop additional materials if so desired, although it is not necessary.

The Department of Recording Industry typically runs 7-8 sections (each seating about 20 students) of the introductory musicianship course each semester, so there is ongoing need. Sections of musicianship meet 3 days a week (M/W/F), are 55-minutes long, with time slots available from 8:00am through noon. Adjuncts can teach up to 3 sections per semester, with each section counting as 3 credits. (The adjunct load is thus capped at 9 credits per semester.)

Salary Range: $700 per credit hour for holders of a terminal degree
