Position: Tenure-Track Assistant Professor

General Information:

Reed College, a liberal arts college, in Portland, Oregon, seeks applicants for the position of tenure-track assistant professor in the Department of Music to begin August 2020.

Qualifications:

We are especially interested in candidates who have a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level. A PhD or DMA is required at time of appointment.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The person will be responsible for choral activities and for teaching core musicianship and aural skills within a diverse undergraduate music program that emphasizes both musical practice and the critical study of music. The selected applicant will be a proven, professionally engaged, dynamic choral pedagogue and creative programmer for a large chorus and smaller, auditioned choir; will have experience as a rigorous and versatile teacher of musicianship and critical aural skills within and beyond the context of Western Art Music; will have a creative understanding of the role that music theory might play in the context of a liberal arts college music program and, preferably, some experience teaching introductory music theory; and will have the ability to advise independent undergraduate thesis projects, as necessary.
