Position: Assistant Professor – music theory/bassoon

General Information:

Assistant Professor of Music; Tenure-track position, full time, 9-month appointment effective August 16,
2020. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, and competitive benefits.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in music by time of hire with demonstrated extensive experience teaching and performing on bassoon as well as demonstrated extensive experience teaching in music theory. Potential to produce significant scholarly achievements, creative activities, and/or research related to the position. Willingness to work collaboratively with faculty and to mentor students from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience performing in a professional-level wind quintet. Experience teaching graduate theory. Demonstrated skills in music technology and/or composition.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Of equal weight, the successful candidate will teach and recruit undergraduate and graduate bassoon students and teach and develop theory-related coursework at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, the successful candidate will perform with the Solstice Wind Quintet, supervise graduate students, maintain scholarship, research, and/or creative activity, and provide service to the department, college, university and/or profession. Other duties as required by the unit.
