Qualifications:

For Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor:

Candidates must have a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or D.M.A.) with an emphasis in musicology, including Western art music, popular music, and American music. Additionally, an ability to teach a broad range of subjects, such as music theory, ethnomusicology, performance practice, avant-garde music, and/or multimedia arts, is preferred.

We are seeking candidates who will contribute to a dynamic, growing Music program with a diverse student body and a strong commitment to working with communities. Candidates should have a proven track record of scholarship, publication, and teaching as well as the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution, engage actively in professional organizations, and maintain a strong commitment to students. We are interested in candidates with prior administrative experience.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

The Department of Music, Multimedia, Theatre, and Dance at Lehman College, City University of New York is conducting an open rank search for a dynamic faculty member with expertise in musicology beginning Fall 2020. The appointment will be at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor, or tenured Associate Professor, or tenured full Professor. Candidates must have an active record of research and scholarship and a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate music courses, and developing an innovative and collaborative curriculum that includes both academic and performance-oriented courses with links to other programs on campus. Candidates should demonstrate the potential for continued scholarly and/or creative activity, effectiveness in classroom teaching, administrative experience, and a commitment to service to the college.

Professorial ranks at Lehman College teach 18 hours (6 courses) per year. Teaching is reduced for tenure-track professorial faculty by 24 hours (8 eight courses) over the first five years for scholarly development. Lehman College and CUNY funding is available through competitive grants for research, travel, and professional development. All faculty are encouraged to seek external funding.
