Position: Assistant Professor of Music Theory

General Information:

The University of Alaska Fairbanks College of Liberal Arts Department of Music is seeking applicants for a non-tenure track Term Assistant Professor of Music Theory beginning August 9, 2020.

Explore the opportunity to teach music in the heart of Alaska. The University of Alaska Fairbanks is looking for an energetic, creative music educator to coordinate the undergraduate music theory curriculum and teach a variety of theory, ear training, and music analysis courses.

Qualifications:

A minimum of two years of experience teaching undergraduate music theory/ear training courses at the college/university level is required. Advanced knowledge and training in areas of music theory, ear training, music analysis is vital; piano skills sufficient to demonstrate musical examples in class is highly desired.

To be eligible for this position, applicants must be legally authorized for unrestricted employment in the United States. No work visas will be sponsored for this position.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

Duties primarily include coordinating and teaching the sequence of undergraduate courses in music theory, ear training, and music analysis. Opportunities for teaching in other areas of specialization are possible (Composition, Counterpoint, Orchestration). Service on Department or College committees assigned as needed and available.

Serve on department committees as needed and available. Research/Creative Activity: May seek opportunities for research/performance/collaborationTeaching undergraduate courses in Music Theory, Ear Training, Music Analysis; 4-5 per semester.
