Position: Tenure-track position in music theory

General Information:

Tenure-track faculty position in music, beginning August, 2007

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a completed or nearly completed doctorate (PhD in Music Theory preferred), show evidence of excellence in teaching and have a background in Music Technology. Candidates should also be qualified to teach in one or more of the following areas; percussion, strings, or woodwinds. Leadership in student recruitment is a requirement. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to the Christian faith and be able to contribute to a mutually supportive and versatile faculty.

Job Description/Responsibilities:

This faculty member will teach the core of our music theory sequence and an introduction to music technology. Additional teaching responsibilities will depend on qualifications and expertise of the successful candidate and needs of the department. Preference will be given to those with a secondary area in percussion, strings, or woodwinds. Other responsibilities include scholarship/performance, recruiting, being active in departmental work and committee work.

Other Information:

The Music Department has six full-time and nineteen adjunct faculty members. The program has approximately fifty-five majors and minors and is housed in the Christ Chapel/Performing Arts Center and DeWitt Music Hall. These facilities provide outstanding performance, rehearsal, studio, and classroom space. The college has ten performing ensembles, two of which tour. Academic programs include a music major and a music ministry major, a fully accredited undergraduate music education program, concentrations in music performance and music therapy, and a music minor. The department annually grants approximately $300,000 in music scholarships.
